New Season, New Cast, New Adventures

Hello again!! Apologies for this long overdue post, but it has been such a busy time around here. Sadie started preschool, we moved to a new place, George has been crazy busy with his business, Avery with his never ending appointments, and all of the other little happenings in between. With all of the craziness it has been hard to find time or energy to write, or pretty much even breathe. The time has just been flying by us, which is most definitely a good thing. We are almost done with Avery's first cast, and I must say, he has been handling it like a champ. We did have a few issues in the beginning, but with some minor adjustments and a little bit of time, everything is back to normal...well, as normal as can be, that is.

We only have ONE WEEK left until the first break, and I couldn't be more excited. I feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas morning! Avery is scheduled for cast removal on October 13th, and he will have a weekend off. This means lots of squishy snuggles and bath time fun for three days!! Then first thing in the morning on October 16th, we will go back to Boston to have the second cast put on. Unfortunately, he still has to go through with the anesthesia, which I am not looking forward to. I have been trying to research the long term side effects of repeated exposure to anesthesia on children as young as Avery, but I have been finding mixed results. The thought of having him go under every couple of months makes me worried that it could cause other problems. Hopefully, I can soon find more information that will help ease my mind, but no matter what, the treatments still must go on.

As for updates on Avery's developmental issues, it was a bit of a process, but we have been approved for early intervention. They will be providing therapy for the areas of development that he scored the lowest in, which will include communication, sensory and feeding. He has shown some signs that have brought up other concerns, but it is still a bit early so at the moment we are just keeping an eye on things. So far, we have just gotten through the initial evaluations and meetings. We would have been able to start his therapy early this month, but since we moved, we had to transfer his case to a different office and now we will have to wait to start next month. As long as he will be getting the help he needs, that is all that matters. We have a long road ahead, but we are ready to go!

In other news, the warm summer weather is slowly fading out, and the cooler fall days are creeping in. That means pumpkin picking, apple picking, leaf peeping, and of course Halloween!! Our favorite time of year is finally here! We can get back to outdoor adventures without having to worry about Avery overheating. We did have one incident earlier this month when we were at Sadie's preschool orientation. It was warm in the school, and even though Avery wasn't overdressed, he began sweating and heating up rather quickly. We got scared as he started acting unusual, so George brought him outside. Once he started to cool down, he was back to acting like himself. I had no idea it could happen so fast like that, but since then, I have become a bit more paranoid about it and can't wait for these hot days to be over already.

Thank you, again, to everyone who has been so supportive and helpful on this journey so far. You will never know just how much it means to us. Hopefully, now that we are getting settled and back into a daily groove, I will be able to keep this blog better updated. So please stay tuned!! Until the next post...

Lots of love.
